Iowa Stage Theatre Company was formed in 2017 from the merger of Repertory Theatre of Iowa and StageWest Theatre Co.

Their history goes back 70 years to the founding of The Drama Workshop, formed in the 1970s to become Des Moines’ second community theater. Its purpose was to provide patrons with cutting edge productions (such as Arthur Miller).
