Performing Arts in Iowa

Smitha Khullar moved to Iowa City from Delhi ten years ago when her husband joined the University of Iowa as a surgeon. A former architect and classically trained Indian dancer, Smitha’s commitment to education continues in Iowa City where she leads the Sampradaya Dance Troupe, teaching Indian culture and heritage to the Iowa-born girls in Iowa City’s Indian community.

Sampradaya Dance Troupe is a Bharata Natyam dance group.  Bharata Natyam is a South Indian Classical Dance, presumably the oldest classical dance heritage of India and regarded as mother of many other Indian classical dance forms. Smitha Khullar is the Guru/ Creative Director of the dance troupe.
