Art in Lamoni, Iowa

Come experience and celebrate Julia’s exhibition during a reception for the artist on Friday, January 25 from 5-8pm in The Helene Center Galleries on the campus of Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa.

“Picking Up the Pieces” is an interactive art installation by Julia Franklin. She uses a single box of her father’s belongings to explore his now mysterious death and to better understand his identity as well as her own.

Julia recreates her childhood home and combines art with artifact to chronicle the life of her father. Visitors are invited to comb through drawers, read letters, play records, and crawl inside a blanket fort to find clues that may explain her father’s unexpected death.

The exhibition runs from January 14 – March 1, 2019. The galleries are open from 8am-5pm Monday through Friday and by appointment on the weekends. All events are free of charge.

A reading of Julia’s related play, “Keeping Up Appearances,” will take place on Friday, February 8 at 7:30pm in the space.

Make plans now to take a road trip to interact with this unique installation!
